XIII INCONTRO DEI GERARCHI CATTOLICI ORIENTALI D'EUROPA

In occasione dei festeggiamenti per il 150° anniversario dell'unione con la Chiesa Cattolica della Chiesa cattolica di rito bizantino slavo di Bulgaria, si svolgerà a Sofia dal 4 al 7 novembre, il XIII incontro dei gerarchi cattolici orientali d'Europa (Gcoe). Tema scelto per l'assise, cui parteciperanno i rappresentanti di 13 Chiese cattoliche di rito orientale, è "I criteri di ecclesialità delle Chiese orientali oggi", analizzato alla luce del Concilio Vaticano II e del dialogo tra la Chiesa cattolica e l'ortodossia. Durante i lavori sarà affrontato anche il tema delle strutture pastorali per i migranti cattolici delle Chiese orientali. "L'incontro di Sofia è volto ad approfondire la comunione episcopale e promuovere la conoscenza in Europa della ricchezza delle varie tradizioni orientali del cattolicesimo europeo" afferma mons. Christo Proykov, esarca apostolico di Sofia e presidente della Conferenza episcopale interrituale di Bulgaria. "Quest'anno celebriamo il 150° anniversario della Chiesa cattolica di rito bizantino slavo in Bulgaria, concludendo così il triennio di preparazione a questo giubileo. In questi mesi la nostra riflessione è dedicata al futuro della nostra Chiesa alla luce della Carità. I primi due anni invece sono stati dedicati alla storia della nostra Chiesa alla luce della Fede (2008), e al presente della nostra Chiesa alla luce della Speranza (2009)".
I festeggiamenti per il 150° anniversario saranno aperti da un Simposio sulla storia della Chiesa cattolica in Bulgaria organizzato congiuntamente dalla Fondazione Konrad Adenauer, dall'Ambasciata del Sovrano Ordine di Malta e dall'Esarcato apostolico e saranno marcati da celebrazioni eucaristiche a Plovdiv e a Sofia e da un incontro pubblico nel quale mons. Proykov illustrerà la storia e la situazione attuale della Chiesa Cattolica di rito bizantino in Bulgaria. Tra i partecipanti ci saranno i cardinali Leonardo Sandri, Prefetto della Congregazione per le Chiese Orientali e Péter Erdő, arcivescovo di Esztergom-Budapest e Presidente del Ccee, il Nunzio apostolico in Bulgaria, mons. Januariusz Bolonek, mons. Antonio Vegliò, presidente del Pontificio Consiglio per i Migranti e gli Itineranti e mons. Cyril Vasil, Segretario della Congregazione delle Chiese Orientali. Nel corso della riunione verrà data lettura della relazione sui criteri di ecclesialità delle Chiese orientali alla luce dei documenti del Concilio Vaticano II e dei documenti pontifici, preparata da mons. Eleuterio Fortino, deceduto il 22 settembre scorso a Roma e che avrebbe dovuto prendere parte all'incontro.

CCEE: BULGARIA, XIII MEETING OF THE ORIENTAL CATHOLIC HIERARCHS OF EUROPE
To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the union between the Catholic Church and the Catholic Church of the Slavic Byzantine rite of Bulgaria, from 4th to 7th November Sofia will play host to the XIII meeting of the Oriental Catholic Hierarchs of Europe (Gcoe). The subject chosen for the meeting, which will be attended by delegates from 13 Catholic Churches of the Oriental rite, is "Criteria of ecclesiality of the Oriental Churches today", in the light of the Second Vatican Council and the dialogue between the Catholic Church and Orthodoxy. The meeting will also address the issue of pastoral facilities for Catholic migrants of the Oriental Churches. "The meeting in Sofia will explore Episcopal communion and promote Europe-wide knowledge of the wealth of the different oriental traditions of European Catholicity", states mgr. Christo Proykov, apostolic exarch and president of the Inter-Ritual Bishops Conference of Bulgaria. "This year, we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Catholic Church of the Slavic Byzantine rite in Bulgaria, thus ending the three-year preparations to this jubilee. Over the last few months, our reflection has been focussed on the future of our Church in the light of Charity. The first two years have been focussed instead on the history of the Church in the light of the Faith (2008) and on the present of our Church in the light of Hope (2009)".
Celebrations for the 150th anniversary will be opened by a Symposium on the history of the Catholic Church in Bulgaria, jointly organised by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta and the Apostolic Exarchate, and will include Eucharistic celebrations in Plovdiv and Sofia and a public meeting during which mgr. Proykov will illustrate the history and current situation of the Catholic Church of the Byzantine rite in Bulgaria. Guests will include cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, and cardinal Péter Erdő, archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest and President of Ccee, the Apostolic Nuncio to Bulgaria, mgr. Januariusz Bolonek, mgr. Antonio Vegliò, president of the Papal Council for Migrants, and mgr. Cyril Vasil, Secretary of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches. The report on criteria of ecclesiality of the Oriental Churches in the light of the documents of the Second Vatican Council and the papal documents, prepared by mgr. Eleuterio Fortino, who died on September 22nd this year and who should have attended the meeting, will be read during the meeting.
