The III African Continental Meeting is an important step in IFCA’s journey. This journey started with the I Meeting in Nairobi in 2000 and continued in 2002 with the II Meeting in Bujumbura. The III meeting has been held in Lugazi from the 5th August to the 9th August about the theme Catholic Action in Africa - launch out into the deep. Look to the future with courage!During the meeting the participants have developed and deeped:
• the actual situation and perspectives for «the future of Christianity» in Africa and in the world: sects, Islam, dialogue, formation of the whole person,…
• CA’s and IFCA’s contribution: the conciliar identity, the formative project, the consignments for the III millennium (contemplation, communion, mission), …
The climax of the meeting has been reached with the visit to the sanctuary in Namugongo, the place where Carlo Lwanga and his companions, young lay people who were the fertile seeds of Christians in Africa, were martyred. It is the place which Paul VI visited as a pilgrim in 1969. The Apostolic Nuncio presided the Holy Mass.
The participants to III African Meeting: lay CA leaders and priests representing all the dioceses in Uganda, IFCA member and observer countries in Africa: Burundi, Rwanda, Zambia, Tanzania and the countries which form the Secretariat: Italy, Rumania.
Through the continental meetings, IFCA aims to encourage exchanges among CA associations in member countries and to give them the opportunity to meet CA associations in observer countries. Above all these meetings give participants the opportunity to go through an ecclesial experience together, through prayer, study, sharing, friendship…
